The Chiles Academy, Bonner Center, Access to Organics, Midtown EcoVillage & CSI Natural Compost, Mulch & TopSoil Share Earth Day 2012 in Daytona Beach, FL...

Earth Day 2012 arrived sooner than anticipated and CSI Natual Compost, Mulch & TopSoil was left scambling... A month earlier, CSI Natural considered different events for Earth Day but had difficulty deciding which to attend. Hmm, what to do for Earth Day 2012?

A local organic gardener in Edgewater, FL encouraged CSI Natural to participate in an event, located in Daytona Beach, FL, at the Bonner Center. CSI Natural welcomed the opportunity to break-out and explore new territory, so, CSI Natural Compost, Mulch & TopSoil attended Earth Day 2012 at Bonner Center/Chiles Academy.

The mission of The Chiles Academy is to combine a community of support and guidance for pregnant and parenting students with the goal of attaining a high school diploma, which will empower them to become independent and responsible citizens. They serve 150 pregnant/parenting teens and children in Volusia County. Through the Bonner Center the Chiles Academy is a “full service community school” that hosts programs such as Early Head Start, Volusia County’s Bridge the Gap Program, and many others.

There were several vendors at the event and the two that come to mind most are "Access to Organics" and "Midtown EcoVillage" both located in Daytona Beach, FL. Access to Organics is a one stop center for organic produce and gardening supplies. Midtown EcoVillage is a non-profit grassroots organization, advocating healthy lifestyles, environmental sustainability and community solidarity through education, advocacy, and services.

Earth Day 2012 started a little dim in the AM because the weather forecast was rain until noon... None the less, CSI Natural arrived in the rain and unfortunately was ill prepared for the weather, not because of the rain but because it got cool. All of the vendors were waiting for the rain to stop except "Midtown EcoVillage". The team worked together successfully to assemble a very large tent in order to prepare all sorts of organic treats (smoothies/salads/appetizers) in time for the anticipated weather change. As luck would have it, and as forecasted, the weather cleared by noon and the sun came out.

Sun shinning, everyone rushed to assemble tables, tents and displays in order to catch the incoming crowd. The Bonner Center Community Garden was on display in the background for all attendees to walk through and learn about community gardening from community gardeners. Adults and children of all ages enjoyed themselves for the entire afternoon. There were games for the kids, plenty of organic food options for snacks throughout the day and no shortage of smiling faces.

CSI Natural was pleased to attend Earth Day 2012 at Bonner Center. The vendor support was obvious, the local community was present and the event was well received by the attending public. Raising awareness within local communities is the mission of so many great groups in Volusia County. CSI Natural is excited to meet many more groups and work together to educate the public on healthier and more sustainable ways of living.
